Counselling in 2023

Counselling Psychotherapist

Emotion Focused Therapy is an extended form of counselling that offers specific ways of intervening on a psychological problem.

You have your thoughts, emotions, behaviour and your physiology. All of these things sit in the environment, where you live, work and play. Various types of counselling intervene at different points, there are no significant differences in outcomes between the main types, however, some people prefer particular types.

I originally trained as a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor, trained in several types of counselling. Later I studied psychotherapy and took advanced training for emotion focus therapy for individuals and emotionally focused therapy for couples. They sound similar because they are from the same academic family but they are completely different.

Online therapy is also available and research evidence in many trials around the world supports the effectiveness of this approach. It’s not for everybody and for this reason I still offer face-to-face as well.

Professor Robert Elliot speaks a little here on the significance of emotions in therapy and mental health.

Humanistic Integrative Counsellor

Humanistic is a relational therapy, integrative means that I include compatible psychological methods and counsellor means that I initially qualified as a counsellor. In addition to this, I went on to become an emotion focused therapist which is considered to be Psychotherapy (Psychological Therapy). Lastly, 6 years ago, I became an emotionally focused couples therapist.

I have worked face to face in several practices over the years. Additionally, I have experience of working with people both in the UK and internationally online.
